How We Built a 100% WCAG-Compliant Gateway for Kenya’s Disability Inclusion Leaders

Eliminating digital barriers for thousands of users while setting a new national standard for accessible UX.

The Problem: A Digital Barrier to Inclusion

As a national advocate for disability rights, our client faced a significant contradiction: their own website was unintentionally "locking out" the community they served. Despite their mission, the platform had become a "digital wall" due to:

  • Invisible Content: Code that screen readers (used by blind users) couldn't interpret.
  • Mouse-Only Navigation: Interactive elements that were impossible to use for those with motor impairments who rely on keyboards.
  • Low Contrast: Text and buttons that were nearly invisible to users with low vision or color blindness.

The Adept Solution: Engineering a Barrier-Free Experience

We built a platform from the ground up, moving accessibility to a core technical requirement.

  • Semantic HTML Rebuild: We ensured the site's architecture has assistive software to provide users with a logical, narrated "map" of every page.
  • Keyboard-First Logic: We engineered a focus-management system allowing 100% of the site to be navigated via a keyboard or switch-access device.
  • AAA Contrast Standards: We applied a high-visibility color palette that exceeds international standards without compromising the brand’s professional look.
  • Optimized Interactive Forms: We redesigned all registration forms to ensure they are accessible, providing clear error cues and instructions for all users.
